Book Reading by Geoffrey Cobb

  • Gallery AWA 61 Greenpoint Avenue NY, 11222 United States (map)

We are very excited to host a reading this Saturday from the new book 'The King of Greenpoint' by local Greenpoint author Geoffrey Cobb.

About The Book:
Peter J. McGuinness (1888-1948) ran Greenpoint as the last Tammany Hall style ward boss in New York City. Never having attended high school, McGuinness started out life as a longshoreman and amateur boxer, but entered politics at the end of World War I because of his frustration with the local political machine. Elected Alderman in a shocking result, McGuinness became perhaps the most colorful legislator in the history of New York City law making. McGuinness endeared himself to his constituents through his legislative accomplishments, service, charity and above all amazing Joie de vivre and humor.

About the Author:
Geoffrey Cobb is a Brooklyn high school history teacher with more than two decades of experience. Mr. Cobb has lived in Greenpoint and studied its history for almost a quarter century. A licensed tour guide who gives local history walking tours, Mr. Cobb is also the author of the popular local blog: http://historicgreenpoint.wordpress.com
